Ways to move a bike
Most people choose between sending the bike together with their household goods and booking a separate bike transport. When the bike travels with the household load it is usually secured and packed as part of the same move, which is convenient if you are already shifting house.
A separate booking suits a rider who is relocating alone or moving the bike on a different date from the rest of the goods.
Documents to keep ready
- A copy of the registration certificate (RC) of the bike.
- A copy of the valid insurance policy.
- A photo ID of the owner.
- A written authorisation if someone else will hand over or receive the bike.
- Keep the originals with you and give the mover only the copies it asks for.
How the bike is prepared
Before packing, note the existing scratches and dents and take photographs from all sides. This makes it easy to compare the condition at delivery.
Movers commonly advise keeping very little fuel in the tank and removing loose accessories such as mirrors, bags and phone holders. Your mover will tell you exactly what it needs.
- Wash and dry the bike so scratches are visible at inspection.
- Take the helmet, saddle bags and any valuables off the bike.
- The handle, mirrors and other exposed parts are wrapped in foam or bubble sheet.
- The bike is covered, secured upright with straps and placed so it cannot shift in transit.
Delivery time and cost
Delivery time depends on the route. A short route such as Mumbai to Pune is generally quicker than a long one such as Mumbai to Bangalore or Delhi. The cost depends on the distance, the bike's size and weight and the packing level, and is confirmed when you share the make, model and the two cities.
On delivery
- Inspect the bike in daylight against your photographs before signing.
- Check the tyres, mirrors, indicators, lights and handlebar.
- Report any damage on the delivery paperwork and to the mover straight away.
- Reconnect the battery if it was disconnected and check the fuel and oil before riding.

Is the bike insured during transit?
