Why societies ask for permission
Housing societies want to make sure maintenance dues are clear, that the lift and common areas are protected, and that goods leaving the building belong to the resident. That is why most Mumbai societies ask for a written request or NOC and issue a gate pass for the moving vehicle.
What to arrange at the building you are leaving
- A written shifting request to the secretary with your flat number, date and time of moving.
- Clearance of maintenance and other dues (some societies issue a 'no dues' letter).
- Landlord consent if you are a tenant, along with the leave-and-licence details.
- Lift booking for the moving window, and lift padding if the society requires it.
- The gate pass for the truck - share the mover's vehicle number and team details.
What to arrange at the new building
- Inform the new society of your moving-in date and timing.
- Submit tenant / owner documents and police verification details if asked.
- Check where the truck can stand and whether goods may be carried through the main lobby.
Typical shifting hours
Many societies allow shifting only during the day (for example 9 am to 7 pm) and may restrict Sundays and holidays. Always confirm the exact timing - we plan the packing start time and the truck's arrival around it.
Frequently asked questions
Is a society NOC compulsory for shifting?
It is not a government document, but most Mumbai housing societies require written permission and clear dues before allowing goods to leave. Ask your society office for its process.
Can packers and movers help with the gate pass?
Yes. We share the vehicle number, driver and team details in advance so your society can issue the gate pass.
