Why this matters
Most moves go smoothly, but every year customers lose money to fake movers who quote very low, take an advance and then raise the price after loading - or never show up. A few checks before booking protect you.
Checks before you book
- Physical office - a genuine company has a real address you can visit or see on Google Maps.
- Reviews - read recent reviews on Google and other platforms, not only testimonials on the website.
- Survey - genuine movers want to see or understand your goods before quoting.
- Written quotation - insist on an itemised quote on the company letterhead or email.
- Consistent name and number - the company name, phone number and website should match everywhere.
Red flags
- A price far lower than every other quote.
- Pressure to pay a large advance immediately.
- Payment requested to a personal account that does not match the company name.
- No written quotation, receipt or goods inventory.
- Requests for OTPs, card PINs or passwords - a mover never needs these.
On moving day
- Get an inventory list of all packed items and keep a copy.
- Note the vehicle number and the driver's contact.
- Keep cash, jewellery and documents with you.
- Check goods at delivery before signing the delivery receipt.
Frequently asked questions
How do I verify a mover's payment details?
Call the company on its official number listed on its website and Google Business Profile and confirm the account before paying.
Should I pay the full amount in advance?
No. A booking advance is normal; the balance is usually paid at dispatch or delivery as per the written quotation.
